Staff and Volunteers
Shack staff has fun and gets the job done!
The staff and volunteers are the heart and soul of the Shack. Without either, the Shack wouldn’t be what it is today. Working and volunteering at the Shack means committing yourself to long days, lots of smiles, and a dedication towards working in the community.
Sharon Jackson is the Executive Director at the Shack. Even though she went to high school in Bahrain, Sharon has dedicated herself to the Scott’s Run community for longer than she’ll let us say. Sharon makes the decisions, finds the grants, and shakes the hands that keep the Shack’s doors open month after month, year after year. When she’s not working, she enjoys babysitting her grandson Jett, grandaughter Jalen and spending time with her two sons, Casey and Shannon, and her husband Ali (aka Jack, aka Charles, aka Allen, aka "Hey You!")
Patty Toothman is the Executive Financial Officer at the Shack. She balances the books, schedules the appointments, writes the bills, and cuts the checks. She and Sharon also take turns wrangling the JV’s and keeping the Staff in line. Without PJ’s perfect filing and tight bookkeeping, the Shack’s doors would have closed a long time ago. When she’s not at the Shack, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, her sons, and her recently retired husband, Vernon.
Amanda Webster (Mandy) is our newest staff person. She began full-time work at The Shack August, 2007 as the Program Coordinator. Previously Mandy was a youth counselor during our summer's Festival of Fun program. Mandy coordinates and supervises both the Afterschool (which serves about 70 children, K-8th grade, assuring they stay safe, have a nutritious snack to eat, and making sure their homework gets completed) and Tutoring Programs. Other responsibilities include recruiting, giving orientation, and supevising the many volunteers that devote their time to our Afterschool and Tutoring programs.
Nicole Kimble is our AmeriCorps member! She starts her day supervising children in our Before School program. When she gets them on the bus it's then time for her to switch her attention to our pre-schoolers in Happy School. Then in the afternoon she has to put on yet another hat to help Mandy with the Afterschool.
Clark Creamer is no longer Shack staff officially, he's working for Habitat for Humanity now, but he's still "unpaid staff" when he comes in to volunteer. He is our tech guy and a big help around the Shack.
Volunteers -- there have been many that have devoted their time to the children in our programs. Most our volunteers are West Virginia University students. We are forever grateful to all our volunteers for their care and friendship.
