What can you do to help?

Lots of things! Your opportunities to help at the Shack are limited only by your imagination! We have opportunities for everyone from youth groups to senior groups, women’s groups and men’s clubs.

The easiest thing you can do is…

Volunteer!

Maybe you love working with children. Maybe you don’t. Maybe you’re more of a “behind the scenes” kind of person. Maybe you’ve got a disability, or maybe there’s something at which you’d like to be better. Regardless of who you are, there’s an opportunity for volunteer service at the Shack. Here are some examples of the kind of work done by volunteers at the Shack in the past.

• Help with Tutoring and Afterschool
• Grounds maintenance. (Mowing grass, hedges, litter pickup, planting flowers)
• Organizing (With 4 huge craft cabinets and several huge bookcases, there’s always something to be organized.)
• Cutting (Cutting? Yes! We receive hundreds of Campbells soup labels each month, and someone has to cut out the UPC’s so we can send them in!)
• Painting (Fences, buildings, etc.)
• Off-site projects (Many local groups enjoy performing single-time service projects at the Shack. It could be a fund raiser, collecting labels, a class, whatever!)

Additionally, we’re always looking for

Donations!

The Shack is very proud to operate, overall, on a very small budget. However, drastically increasing food, utility, and operational insurance costs have been eating away greater and greater chunks of the available budget. Should you chose to make a cash or property donation to the Shack, you should know that we are a 501(c)3 organization, and that your donation will be tax exempt.

And lastly,

Tell your friends!

Maybe you could have an office pool to raise funds, or simply tell your friends and coworkers about how great you think the Shack is, and how important you know it is to the surrounding community. Word of mouth is our biggest way to advertise, so help us out and spread the word! Print off flyers for fundraisers and give them to friends and coworkers, arrange an office-wide help day. Every little bit helps, and we’re honored to know you care!
